Lot 2017 INVESTMENT GRADE R.G. OWEN 'O3 SPRINGFIELD SPORTER

WITH SCOPE. Cal. 30-06. S# 703. The 24" reshaped military barrel is engraved "CAL. 30/06 R.G. OWEN-SAUQUOIT, N.Y. no 703" on top rear. Barrel is fitted with sleeved on front ramp with dovetailed hood holding gold bead front sight with flip-up night bead. Barrel is also fitted with sleeved on sling eye. 1903 Springfield action has been fitted with G&H side mount and Lyman 48 receiver sight (presently holding blank slide, original slide is in butt trap). Bolt has been lowered for scope use and has knob checkered and engraved. Bolt body is engine turned. Case hardened flag safety is fully checkered and silver inlaid "SAFE" and "READY". Bottom metal has had floor plate hinged with button in trigger guard bow. Bow itself is nicely contoured and slimmed. Screw heads are engraved. Steel capped pistol grip stock made of nicely veined dense European walnut measures 13-7/8" over very fancy checkered trap steel buttplate. Many uncheckered lines and scrolls run through pattern. Stock features classic Owen styling with arrowhead drop points, classically shaped beaded right hand shadow line cheekpiece, horn forend tip and toeline mounted with matching sling eye and gold shield engraved "W.W." "U.S.A.". Superb borderless checkering is of multi-point pattern at grip. Around forend, pattern is intersected with uncheckered lines. Rifle is mounted with Lyman Alaskan 2.5X scope with crosshair and post reticle in G&H alloy rings and slide. CONDITION: exceptionally fine; very close to "as new" retaining essentially all original blue on metal parts with just a hint of silvering found on edges of buttplate and grip cap. There are a few very minor marks in original fine oil finish of stock. Checkering has minimal wear. Bore is bright, sharp and shiny throughout. Mechanically fine. Scope is also very fine; optically clear. Case hardened components of scope mount are brilliant. As fine an example of the work of this highly respected American custom gunmaker as one could ever hope to find. (25-7010/MGM). CURIO. $5,000-10,000.
